Putnam Math Competition December 1st
The 68th Annual William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition will be held on Saturday, December 1st. This is a challenging test of problem solving skill, open to all undergraduates. If you would like to represent Emory, or for more information, please e-mail Professor Grigni at email@example.com .
Department welcomes Alessandro Veneziani
We are pleased to announce that Alessandro Veneziani, previously of the Politecnico di Milano, has joined Emory as Associate Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science. Alessandro's research interests are in computational mathematics, with a particular emphasis on simulation and modeling of fluid flows. He is currently working on hemodynamics and mathematical prediction of aneurysms in blood vessels. He recently received the Sacchi-Landriani Internazional Prize for Numerical Analysis of Partial Differential Equations, and is a past recipient of a SIAM Outstanding Paper award. He will be a key participant in our Computational Mathematics program and will teach linear algebra, computational fluid dynamics, and numerical simulation. We welcome Alessandro warmly and wish him a long and fruitful career at Emory!
Professor Benedict Gross to deliver "Luminaries" lecture on September 14
Professor Benedict Gross, Dean and Professor of Mathematics, Harvard College and Member, National Academy of Sciences, will deliver the next lecture in Emory's "Luminaries in Science" distinguished lecture series. Professor Gross is well known for his work in number theory, particularly the Gross-Zagier theorem on L-functions of elliptic curves, which was work with Don Zagier. Professor Gross's lecture will be held in White Hall 207 on Friday, September 14, 2007 from 12:15 to 1:30 pm. All are invited
